Starbucks and The Starbucks Foundation support disaster relief efforts in Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand
Starbucks and The Starbucks Foundation work alongside local teams and nonprofit partners to provide relief and build resilience.
As communities navigate the impact of natural and man-made disasters, Starbucks and The Starbucks Foundation work alongside local teams and nonprofit partners to provide relief and build resilience. Here are updates of our latest support.
Hong Kong
In response to the devastating fire that broke out on November 26 at Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong, Starbucks and The Starbucks Foundation committed HK $1 million (approximately US $129,000) to Save the Children and Save the Children Hong Kong to provide psychological support for children and their families affected by the fires. This contribution builds on the immediate efforts of Starbucks Hong Kong partners (employees), who provided complimentary beverages and food to affected residents, first responders, and volunteers in the aftermath of the fire.
Indonesia
In response to torrential rains and floods in Indonesia, including in coffee-growing regions of Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, The Starbucks Foundation is partnering with Planet Water Foundation and Save the Children to provide access to clean, safe drinking water, nutritious meals, and essential supplies like blankets and mats for displaced families. This builds on recent support in flood-affected communities in Bali where The Starbucks Foundation provided Save the Children with a grant to focus on recovery efforts for students and school communities. This complements efforts by Starbucks Indonesia partners (employees) on the ground who served warm cups of coffee to first responders and community members, and partners who joined Save the Children in helping to clear debris and renovate two schools so children can resume their learning.

Philippines
In the wake of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu on September 30, The Starbucks Foundation supported Planet Water Foundation to deploy emergency water filtration systems to provide clean, safe drinking water to communities including in Antipolo, Medellin, and Poblacion, San Remigio.

In response to Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino), and subsequent flooding in November, The Starbucks Foundation supported Planet Water Foundation to deploy three additional water filtration systems across local evacuation centers providing approximately 10,000 people in Talisay City, Cebu, with safe drinking water.

In addition, The Starbucks Foundation and Starbucks Philippines partnered with World Central Kitchen to support more than 7,000 meals in areas in Cebu and Arora hit hardest by Typhoon Fung-wong (Uwan).

Thailand
In response to the floods which struck Southern Thailand in November, The Starbucks Foundation and Starbucks Thailand committed THB 1 million (approximately US $31,500) to CARE International and its local network member, Raks Thai Foundation, to expand community kitchens and food distribution in Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala and Hat Yai and support other recovery efforts for families impacted by the floods, with particular focus on women and the most at-risk.
