When it comes to all-time favorite summertime memories, a day at the fair is always near the top of the list. It’s a kaleidoscope of the senses – from the colorful blur of the carnival rides to the clickety-clack of an old-fashioned roller coaster. And it’s time spent with family and friends.

That was the inspiration for Starbucks newest summer Frappuccino® blended beverage. Available starting May 11 at Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada, the Starbucks® Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino ® blended beverage joins Starbucks summers lineup of food, beverages and merchandise.

“We wanted to capture the joy of this time of year, and we thought about those simple pleasures that really encapsulate summer,” said Sara Bennett, senior product developer for Starbucks R&amp;D team. “That led us to state fairs and funnel cake – just wanting to channel that sense of carefree fun.”

The dessert gets its name from the funnel (or a squeeze bottle today) used to drizzle the batter into a fryer, creating a lacey web of fried dough that’s crispy and golden brown. There’s no wrong way to top a funnel cake, which are served with a variety of toppings like apple and cinnamon or maple syrup. But Bennett and the team settled on a strawberry and whipped cream version.

“I always love strawberries because they're so summery,” Bennett said. “You get the juicy taste of strawberry, the decadent whipped cream, the sweet and slightly savory dough, and then the powdered sugar. I feel that's a quintessential funnel cake.”

While the classic <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/2122724/iced?parent=%2Fdrinks%2Ffrappuccino-blended-beverages%2Fcreme-frappuccino">Strawberry Crème Frappuccino®</a> blended beverage is coffee-free, the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino® blended beverage is made with Frappuccino® Roast coffee. The recipe features coffee, milk and ice blended with funnel-cake flavored syrup and layered with strawberry puree and whipped cream. The finishing touch is a sprinkle of crunchy funnel cake pieces dusted with powdered sugar.

“I really hope that you feel like you’re just drinking a little sip of summer with this beverage,” Bennett said. “I really hope it brings a bright spot to your day.”
