The Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago is featuring the work of David Anthony Geary, a Chicago based artist. Geary - whose Siren mural is displayed on the third level of the Chicago Roastery - designed a Community Capsule that includes a ceramic planter and mug, a bomber jacket, and art prints. As a transdisciplinary artist, this collection reflects the inspiration and ritual built both into Geary’s life and his creative practice.

Exclusive to the New York Roastery, this Community Capsule features five New York City artists’ handcrafted accessories for the Chemex® brewer. Invented by a chemist and immigrant to New York City, the Chemex® brewer serves as the perfect vessel to showcase the talents of the city’s artists.

Camille Beckles teamed up with the New York Roastery to create the Camille at the Wheel Underground: Handcrafted Trivet for Chemex®. This dish was shaped to complement the clean lines of the Chemex® body, while its earthy blue glaze contrasts the brown leather collar and wooden strap attached. Based in Queens, Camille crafts handmade, wheel-thrown ceramics, with a bent toward beautiful utility.&nbsp;

Behind the work of Closed Monday is Brooklyn based artist Bekka Palmer. Her textile brand, known for making baskets and bags out of rope and thread, has created the Closed Mondays Orange Chemex® Hug for the New York Roastery. Inspired by the traditional koozie made for canned beverages, Palmer designed this custom basket accessory to provide protection and warmth to the brewer, or as she describes it, a little hug.

The Littlejohn New York Chemex® Saddle Brown Collar is made with premium full-grain leather and is tailored for the Chemex® Brewer. Marc Littlejohn, the designer, educator and founder of Littlejohn New York, has accumulated over 20 years of manufacturing and design knowledge through his time working with large and small organizations. Honoring the clean lines of the mid century modern aesthetic and his passion for designing products where form&nbsp;follows function, Littlejohn has crafted a piece that celebrates the Chemex® elegant contours with a provocative sleeve of leather.

Known for her collection of home goods and jewelry, Naomi Feuerstein is the artist behind the Overlook Woods Chemex® Bent Wood Brown Collar. Handcrafted in Brooklyn, woodworking is at the heart of Overlook Woods, and this piece includes layers of wooden braids that are stitched together with thread, creating a pliable mesh that appears to defy logic. The result is flexible enough to slide on and off, and strong enough to maintain secure support during a hand pour. Feuerstein’s desire to push wood beyond what is expected results in an interwoven design that evokes togetherness and community. &nbsp;

Tianna Meilinger is the creator of the Vaya Bags Orange Chemex Coozie. Based in Queens, Meilinger designs and creates messenger bags and backpacks out of recycled materials. This easy to snap off Coozie is made from a sailboat awning in fall sunset inspired colors, sewn together beneath the cityscape outline, reflecting Meilinger’s appreciation of nature and unity next to the striking backdrop of the city. This piece also features a suede lined grip section to protect the hand from heat while pouring.

The Seattle collection highlights the work of Eighth Generation, a Seattle based Native-owned company. The founder, Louie Gong, is a Coast Salish artist raised in the Nooksack tribal community. The collection includes a wool blanket, a demi set of four tasting cups, a ceramic tumbler, a mini print, and cedar bow earrings, all featuring native art and designs.

Returning Holiday Mugs and Tumblers

Returning this year is Starbucks Reserve Red Floral Tumbler featuring a festive coffee cherry pattern. This stainless-steel tumbler keeps beverages hot or colder longer. Another seasonal favorite returning this year is the Starbucks Reserve Ceramic Mug Gold, a beautifully crafted, high shine, ceramic mug packaged in a decorative holiday box inspired by coffee cherries. This mug is perfect golden accessory to a hot tea or coffee. Both items are available at all Starbucks Reserve locations for a limited time while supplies last.

Festive Holiday Beverages and Princi Food

Along with new and returning holiday merchandise, Starbucks Reserve locations are welcoming back festive holiday beverages and Princi food.

Starbucks Reserve® Christmas 2021 coffee features notes of candied ginger, orange marmalade, and warm, woodsy, cedar, with a butterscotch sweetness. Starbucks master blenders start with hand selected beans from Hacienda Alsacia, the Starbucks farm in Costa Rica, and then add perfectly aged Sumatran beans and full-bodied coffee from Aceh region of Indonesia- creating a special holiday coffee that pairs well the flavors of the season.

The return of the rich and silky Pistachio Latte is a telltale sign that the holidays are here. A full-bodied taste of the holiday-inspired coffee blend is complemented by the earthy, nutty flavor of pistachio-infused milk. Warmed with a sprinkle of salty-sweet pistachio topping, this buttery delicacy is the sip of the season.

The Pistachio Buttered Rum and Maharaja Chai Nog invokenostalgia with flavors that will fill customers cup with joy. The Pistachio Buttered Rum features Valrhona’s rich Pistachio Paste, Disaronno Originale Amaretto, King’s Ginger Liqueur, Santa Teresa 1796 Solera Dark rum, and Starbucks Reserve® Christmas 2021; and the Maharaja Chai Nog includes Teavana® Maharaja® Chai tea with a blend of Sumatra coconut milk and Elmhurst™ Barista almond milk, Aperol, and Banks 5 Island Rum.

The Princi Panettone Classico is asweet loaf with a light airy texture, rich buttery taste and sweet citrus notes, including candied orange and raisins. With more than 30 hours of artisanship in every batch, heart and soul is baked into this Italian holiday tradition.

Enjoy a taste the sweet life with the new Starbucks Reserve Espresso Dolce beverages

There’s a beautiful saying in Italian that can instantly conjure up thoughts of sunny springtime afternoons under a patio umbrella or a barefoot walk on the beach. It’s la dolce vita – the sweet life.

That’s the spirit behind Passionfruit Pomegranate Espresso Dolce and Mandarin Espresso Dolce, the newest Starbucks Reserve® iced beverages. They are available this spring at Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Starbucks Reserve store locations in <a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/locations/chicago">Chicago,</a> <a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/locations/new-york">New York</a> and <a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/locations/seattle">Seattle</a>.

The first step in creating a new espresso beverage for Starbucks Reserve is highlighting the unique flavor notes of each coffee. Depending on where the coffee is grown and how it is processed and roasted, some may be more smoky and herbal, while others may be floral or bright.

“We always want to start with coffee,” said Jennifer Galbraith from Starbucks beverage development team. “How do we highlight and really elevate our beautiful, rare Starbucks Reserve coffees roasted on-site at the Roasteries?”

The team often turns to flavors of nuts, cocoa and spice as the foundation of Starbucks Reserve favorites such as Pistachio Latte, Hazelnut Bianco Latte and Nitro Molé Mocha. But for this newest Starbucks Reserve Beverage, the team drew out the citrus notes of the featured Reserve coffees (<a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/coffee/gravitas-blend-vintage-2020">Starbucks Reserve Gravitas Blend</a> at the Roasteries, and <a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/coffee/microblend-no-21">Microblend 21 at the Reserve stores</a>), and let them shine alongside rich layers of fruit puree and sweet cream.

“The Espresso Dolce beverages bring together an unexpected combination, it is a delicious union of fruit puree, sweet cream and espresso over ice,” said Keith Jacobsen, beverage manager for Starbucks Reserve.

Another benefit to this refreshing combination of coffee and fruit – color. While most finished coffee beverages tend to be brown, a layer of refreshing fruit adds an unexpected vibrancy to the beverages.

“When you start bringing in the flavors of pomegranate and mandarin, you also bring the color – they come hand-in-hand,” Galbraith said. “It’s such a great reason for customers to come to the Roastery and Starbucks Reserve stores, try our new spring beverages and experience something they have never experienced before.”

Passionfruit Pomegranate Espresso Dolce

Passionfruit, pomegranate, and a touch of blood orange, layered with fior di latte (sweet cream) and topped with Starbucks Reserve espresso over ice.

Mandarin Espresso Dolce is made with a citrus blend of mandarin and tangerine, layered with fior di latte and topped with Starbucks Reserve espresso over ice. Available exclusively at Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Seattle, Chicago and New York City.

Each Starbucks Reserve® Roastery is a destination – an <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/press/2019/starbucks-reserve-roasteries-around-the-world/">immersive coffee experience in iconic cities around the world</a> that celebrates the company’s heritage and serves as a tribute to the roasting and craft of coffee. Starbucks is bringing the flavors of the Roastery to Starbucks stores with return of the Pistachio Latte, starting today (Jan. 4) at participating stores in the United States and Canada, and for a limited time this winter season.

Ever since the first Roastery opened in Seattle in 2014, the innovative offerings at Starbucks Roasteries have inspired new beverages in Starbucks stores, including <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2017/secrets-of-starbucks-nitro-cold-brew/">Nitro Cold Brew</a>, and seasonal favorites such as the <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2017/starbucks-cascara-latte/">Cascara Latte</a>, <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2016/starbucks-roastery-inspired-beverages/">Smoked Butterscotch Latte</a> and <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2018/new-juniper-latte-and-holiday-gifts-arrive-in-starbucks-stores/">Juniper Latte</a>. For the opening of the Chicago Roastery in November 2019, Jennifer Galbraith and the Roastery beverage development team created the Starbucks Reserve Pistachio Latte as a tribute. Her idea for the beverage came from the love customers have for the Italian café classic <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/2122617/hot?parent=%2Fdrinks%2Fhot-coffees%2Flattes">Starbucks Reserve Hazelnut Bianco Latte</a>, and exploring other nuts popular in Italy.

“Hazelnuts are grown in northern Italy, and some of the best pistachios are grown in the southern region of Italy,” said Galbraith. “They call them “green gold’ – there’s even a pistachio festival in Bronte, Sicily.”

The pistachio (a member of the cashew family) has a mild, buttery flavor that’s lightly salty. Galbraith found the nutty, buttery flavors of the pistachio complemented the rich full body notes of Starbucks Reserve® Christmas coffee. The final beverage, <a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/menus">a favorite on the menu at Roasteries and Starbucks Reserve locations</a>, features espresso shots paired with pistachio sauce with milk, warmed with a cozy hint of orange zest and finished with a salted brown butter topping.

“Starbucks Reserve coffee is the star of the show, and the creamy, buttery flavor of the pistachio and the salty-sweet topping of the beverage bring out the rich notes of the coffees,” Galbraith said.

The Starbucks Reserve beverage was such a hit with customers, Starbucks beverage development team immediately started looking for ways last winter to bring the spirit of the beverage to life in Starbucks stores.

“When we were given the task to create a Pistachio Latte inspired by the Starbucks Reserve Roastery beverage, we started with Starbucks Espresso Roast as the foundation,” said beverage developer Matthew Thornton. “We then worked to create a Pistachio Latte that complemented all the notes of our signature espresso while giving a nod of the cap to the Roastery.”

But just as they were hitting their stride in March 2020, they found themselves bringing their aprons home when their <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/press/2020/navigating-through-covid-19/">R&amp;D beverage lab closed at Starbucks headquarters as a COVID safety precaution</a>. In addition to their aprons, they brought their ingredients and continued to work from their kitchens and dining rooms – with Thornton conducting beverage screenings for the team 10 feet apart from TV trays set up in his driveway. They dialed in the warm and comforting flavors of the beverage, landing on a salted brown buttery topping that accentuates the rich, slightly salty flavor of the pistachio. When Thornton took time off for paternity leave in June, Erin Marinan took over and saw it to the finish.

“We were mindful that pistachios can take on some different flavor profiles. For example, spumoni ice cream can lean into a cherry, almond flavor,” Marinan said. “But, like with the Roastery beverage, this is more a true pistachio flavor, it’s earthy with slight fruity notes that are really delicate.”
