Starbucks new summer Frappuccino blended beverage evokes a day at the fair, with delicious flavors of strawberries and whipped cream layered with blended coffee and ice, topped with crunchy funnel cake pieces dusted with powdered sugar.

When it comes to all-time favorite summertime memories, a day at the fair is always near the top of the list. It’s a kaleidoscope of the senses – from the colorful blur of the carnival rides to the clickety-clack of an old-fashioned roller coaster. And it’s time spent with family and friends.

That was the inspiration for Starbucks newest summer Frappuccino® blended beverage. Available starting May 11 at Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada, the Starbucks® Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino ® blended beverage joins Starbucks summers lineup of food, beverages and merchandise.

“We wanted to capture the joy of this time of year, and we thought about those simple pleasures that really encapsulate summer,” said Sara Bennett, senior product developer for Starbucks R&amp;D team. “That led us to state fairs and funnel cake – just wanting to channel that sense of carefree fun.”

The dessert gets its name from the funnel (or a squeeze bottle today) used to drizzle the batter into a fryer, creating a lacey web of fried dough that’s crispy and golden brown. There’s no wrong way to top a funnel cake, which are served with a variety of toppings like apple and cinnamon or maple syrup. But Bennett and the team settled on a strawberry and whipped cream version.

“I always love strawberries because they're so summery,” Bennett said. “You get the juicy taste of strawberry, the decadent whipped cream, the sweet and slightly savory dough, and then the powdered sugar. I feel that's a quintessential funnel cake.”

While the classic <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/2122724/iced?parent=%2Fdrinks%2Ffrappuccino-blended-beverages%2Fcreme-frappuccino">Strawberry Crème Frappuccino®</a> blended beverage is coffee-free, the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino® blended beverage is made with Frappuccino® Roast coffee. The recipe features coffee, milk and ice blended with funnel-cake flavored syrup and layered with strawberry puree and whipped cream. The finishing touch is a sprinkle of crunchy funnel cake pieces dusted with powdered sugar.

The camp staple from the 1960s and ’70s is having another pop culture moment, with tie-dye becoming one of the hottest fashion trends of 2019. Now Tie-Dye Frappuccino® blended beverage is available starting today (July 10) at participating Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada for a limited time, while supplies last.

The beverage is made with a tropical Crème Frappuccino with dashes of powder in yellow, red and blue (which gets its color from red beet, turmeric and spirulina) that mix to make a rainbow of vibrant hues. The beverage is topped with whipped cream and a final dusting of colored powder.

Paloma Carrington-Bataller designed the colorful beverage and worked with the baristas at <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2019/inside-the-tryer-center-the-starbucks-lab-where-anything-is-possible/">the Tryer Center</a> to perfect the build.

“We wanted to create something that celebrates summer and really conveys it both visually and through flavor within the beverage,” she said.&nbsp;“We knew it had to make you smile at first sight and our Tie-Dye Frappuccino does all this! It’s summer in a cup and something everyone can relate to; it takes you back to sunny warm days of summer spent at camp or with friends and family.”&nbsp;

Just as no two tie-dyes are alike, each beverage will have its own unique combination of swirling shades.

In 2015, we launched the S’mores Frappuccino at Starbucks and it quickly became a fan favorite. In fact, customers loved it so much they wanted to become it.

However, summer 2018 rolled around and something happened: we didn’t rekindle the campfire.

People were left wondering if the S’mores Frappuccino would ever make its annual debut.

But as time went on, fans realized the flavor of summer wouldn’t return.

They refused to forget about their favorite flavor, even two years later.

And guess what? We heard them, we listened, and we can’t WAIT to share it with them again this summer.
