To help coffee drinkers discover the at-home coffee that’s made to be theirs, Starbucks is partnering with uplifting hip hop rapper Harry Mack to celebrate people’s unique taste preferences and take personalization to the next level. With a variety of delicious at-home coffees to choose from in grocery stores, Harry Mack is helping consumers pick the Starbucks® coffee that’s right for them by doing what he does best – impromptu freestyling. Dubbed the “Reverse Roast,” this musical collaboration is a positive and flavorful twist on the standard comedic roast, leaving people with personalized recommendations and a splash of joy in their day.

“Many of us start each morning with a cup of coffee at home, making it important for that small moment to be just right and set the tone for our day. Last month, Harry surprised grocery shoppers in the coffee aisle to “Reverse Roast” them with real-time coffee recommendations. Freestyling based on personality traits the shoppers used to describe themselves like “vibrant” and “confident,” Harry directed them to signature blends like Pike Place® Roast, Veranda Blend® or Starbucks® Caramel Flavored Coffee.

On Thursday, Feb. 16 (4-5 p.m. PT), Starbucks and Harry Mack are hosting a one-hour live <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/harrymackofficial">Twitch</a> ‘Reverse Roast’ so even more fans can join the fun. A pitcher of cold brew in the refrigerator makes everything a little better.

Arlene De La Cruz is a district manager in New York, who helped open the <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2018/starbucks-reserve-roastery-begins-its-unique-new-york-state-of-grind/">Starbucks Reserve Roastery in New York</a> in 2018. From her own home kitchen in the Washington Heights neighborhood, she will show you how to make this smooth, delicious staple using a piece of brewing equipment you may already have – a coffee press.

“Cold brew is one of my favorite year-round beverages, I drink it all year,” she said. “I’ll show you an easy way to make it at home.”

But wait, there’s more – she’ll also show you how to give your cold brew a sophisticated twist inspired by two favorites on the menu at <a href="https://www.starbucksreserve.com/en-us/visit">Starbucks Reserve Roastery locations</a> around the world.*

Here’s what you’ll need: coffee press, ground Starbucks® coffee (we love a medium roast) and water. &nbsp;

Scoop 82 grams (about 1 cup or 8 coffee scoops) of coarse-ground coffee into an 8-cup coffee press. Pour 2 cups of cool water into press. Stir with a spoon or spatula to wet the coffee grounds.

3. Place plunger and brew

Cover, but don’t plunge, and place in refrigerator. Allow to steep in the refrigerator 16-20 hours.

Take finished cold brew out of the fridge and slowly plunge the coffee press. This yields about 8 cups of cold brew concentrate. Pour into another container (such as a pitcher or large jar) and store up to seven days in refrigerator. Fill a glass of ice halfway with cold brew concentrate and top with a few ounces of cold water to enjoy as is, or keep going to learn how to give your cold brew a tasty twist.

Making coffee at home with a coffee press is a delicious way to enjoy its full flavor, and its four-minute brewing time is just enough to catch up with someone special.

This Mother’s Day, while many of us are apart, families are finding creative ways to be together. Raelene Goodson, a designer on the Starbucks Stories team and former barista at the first Starbucks Reserve™ Roastery in Seattle, showed her mom, Liz Goodson, in California, how to make an expert coffee press at home via Zoom during this installment of Starbucks at Home.

“This is what we usually drink when you're here visiting me, it’s a really easy way to brew coffee and a good go-to,” Raelene said to her mom. “I love that we’re doing this, even though you’re not in Seattle, we’re still having a Mother’s Day.”

Raelene and Liz are both brewing <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/2123124/whole-bean?parent=%2Fat-home-coffee%2Fwhole-bean%2Fmedium-roast">Siren’s Blend™,</a> Starbucks newest core coffee that <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2019/women-in-coffee-sirens-blend/">honors the women who contribute to coffee’s journey</a>. And in keeping with their family tradition, they are adding a dollop of whipped cream on top.

“Siren’s Blend is a medium roast coffee and it’s so versatile,” Raelene said. “I drink as hot coffee at home, I’ve done it as cold brew. What’s nice about the whipped cream is that it'll add that little bit of sweetness to it but you can still taste the coffee.”

Lifting her mug to meet her daughter’s on screen, Liz reflected, “This is a unique year. And this is an excellent way to be enjoying coffee for Mother’s Day.”

Here’s what you’ll need: coffee press, ground coffee, near-boiling water, and a timer.

Use coarse-ground coffee that resembles sea salt, and measure 2 tablespoons coffee per 6 ounces of water. (Here we’re using a 34-ounce, or 8-cup coffee press.)

Fill the coffee press with hot water that’s just been boiled (200° F). Make sure to saturate all the grounds.

4. Place plunger and brew

Put the lid back on the press without pushing the plunger down and let the coffee brew for four minutes.

Gently push down the plunger until it reaches the bottom of the press and pour coffee into your favorite mugs. Top with whipped cream for a special treat.
