Corinne Kinder, store manager from Wentzville, Missouri, saved her Bean Stock awards for seven years to secure a down payment for her dream home. "In conversations with my partners, every First Sip I do, I go through the benefits and how it has positively impacted my life and how it can positively impact them. Andrea Coyle, store manager from Beverly Hills, California, was first exposed to mental health support, thanks to the services offered by Lyra. "Because of the coverage I have, I feel like I can actually, finally, take care of my health. I've had the same therapist the entire time. I truly think she changed my life." &nbsp;

Jeffrey Duffy, store manager from Anchorage, Alaska, works at Starbucks – along with his wife, daughter and son. They’re all Coffee Masters. Between them all, he figures they’ve used almost every benefit there is. “Being in a company that cares about its people, that was huge to me. I have the opportunity to grow, and fail, without being punished or feeling belittled. I feel very supported. I feel like Starbucks truly cares about me as a person. Bringing my kinds on was a no-brainer. My daughter was working at restaurants, and I saw the way she was getting treated, and I was like, you won’t be treated that way at Starbucks. There’s not a lot of jobs that provide affordable health benefits. The benefits keep me here, and the opportunity to grow.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ben Arias, shift supervisor in Chicago, hopes to use the business administration degree he’s earning through the Starbucks College Achievement Plan to expand the reach of a weekly community-dinner service initiative he helps lead. “Starbucks has been instrumental in the long-term benefit of my life. I’ll be the first in my family to graduate from college. Credit where credit’s due.”&nbsp;

For Emily Pruitt, a store manager in Austin, Texas, signing her wife up for health insurance was a game-changer. It covered the majority of the treatment needed to stabilize her kidney disease. “One of the things that keeps me around is the benefits. Interviewing new candidates, onboarding them, it’s my favorite piece to share, one of the biggest selling points. It’s more than a job, it provides more than a paycheck. It happens once a year – when 18,000 Starbucks stores all over North America are transformed on the same night with stacks of <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2023/a-sneak-peek-of-starbucks-holiday-cups/">holiday cups</a> wrapped like gifts, colorful bags of Christmas Blend lining the shelves and bright red menu boards with the season’s festive beverages. It’s the <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2023/starbucks-holiday-highlights-2023/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">holidays at Starbucks</a>, and this year we’re taking a look behind the curtain to meet some of the people who bring the holiday magic to life.&nbsp;

At Sandy Roquet’s store on <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/store-locator/store/7428/downtown-edmonds-502-main-street-edmonds-wa-980203148-us" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Main Street</a> in downtown Edmonds, Wash., unopened cartons of holiday merchandise had already caused a stir before their set-up even began. “Customers have been trying to peek in the boxes that say “no peeking,” Roquet said. “I've had people hanging around just waiting to take one little look while we're getting ready.”&nbsp;

Once the store closed for the evening, Roquet and her team donned their holiday garb, cranked up the holiday music and worked late into the night unboxing the cups and merchandise to get the store ready. &nbsp;

“It’s like a crisp, new beginning,” Roquet said. “I love spreading joy in the store. It just oozes the holiday spirit out to everyone.”&nbsp;

For partner Elena Umeno, who has done more than a dozen holiday sets over the years during her 18-year tenure, her favorite moment is when customers come through the doors and see all the red signs and the red aprons for the first time. “Everyone’s face is always surprised. There’s often a gasp – and maybe an occasional groan by the people who aren’t ready yet – but it’s always exciting.”&nbsp;

Meanwhile, over at the <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/store-locator/store/1006380/7th-ave-camelback-rd-730-west-camelback-phoenix-az-850132207-us" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">7th Ave. &amp; Camelback Road</a> store in Phoenix, partners dressed in cozy holiday pajamas to get into the holiday spirit as they decorated. On Thursday morning, the <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/press/2022/starbucks-paves-way-for-more-inclusive-and-accessible-experiences-in-stores-around-the-world/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Community Store,</a> dedicated to helping youth and underserved people in their community, had a line of customers queued outside before opening to get their hands on the new holiday cups, <a href="http://drinks%20and%20food/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">drinks and food</a> while partners took turns guessing which pieces of merchandise would fly off the shelves first.&nbsp;

“These ornaments are always my favorite part of holiday launch,” said Ariel Torres, a three-year partner. “It’s been a tradition since I remember to get one for my mom every year for Christmas and now that I live in a different state than her, it makes it that much more special.”&nbsp;

Store manager Tatum Young said, “My favorite part of holiday set is when we are doing the final walk through of the store and just seeing all of the new holiday items. It’s just like waking up on Christmas morning!”&nbsp;

In Chicago’s Northalsted neighborhood, the partners at the store at <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/store-locator/store/11663/3358-north-broadway-3358-n-broadway-chicago-il-606578486-us" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">3358 North Broadway</a>, swapped out the menu boards and stocked the coffee and holiday beverage ingredients. Cambee Morris, a nine-year shift supervisor training to become a <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2022/the-coveted-starbucks-coffee-master-black-aprons-return/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coffee Master,</a> said the seasonal coffee is the highlight of the holidays. “My favorite part is when the coffee lovers see Christmas Blend on the shelves and their eyes light up,” Morris said.&nbsp;

Mya Pici, shift supervisor, loves the moment when people come in and see the store has transformed. “No matter what's going on in their lives,” she said, “it’s just a nice moment to walk in and have at least one space where everybody is festive and happy.”&nbsp;

Bottom line: Starbucks has limitless opportunities to grow and nurture human connections over coffee. But to achieve what is limitless, we will continue to address what limits us. 1. We are elevating the brand by making significant investments in our U.S. store operation and equipment, while also innovating around our core products. Starbucks has seen average weekly sales outpace pre-COVID levels by double digits, proving there is demand for even more stores beyond the 17,800 currently located across North America.

What’s Next: Renovating existing stores and building new purpose-driven stores in various formats – pick-up, drive-thru only, double-sided drive-thru, and delivery-only – to meet customer demand. Tripling the number of Greener Stores in three years. Scaling solutions like the Siren System to empower partners to do their jobs more efficiently. Further tapping the power of our analytics to understand consumer demands and innovating afternoon and all-day food options, including more healthy, premium snacks.

2. Starbucks is strengthening and scaling in digital to create meaningful connections – and accelerate growth. Today, there are more than 75 million Starbucks Rewards members globally. Super fans run digital communities (such as Leaf Rakers Society on Facebook) to share their love for the brand. With more than 38,000 locations and 22 percent of global sales coming through digital channels, Starbucks continues to leverage and build our tech capabilities, including our Deep Brew AI and machine learning.

What’s Next: We expect to double the number of Starbucks Rewards members in the next five years. Continuing our rewards partnership with Delta and expanding to additional partnerships in the financial and hospitality sectors. Releasing features more frequently to help partners and store operations run more smoothly. Promising new collaborations with tech pioneers like Microsoft, Apple and Amazon.

3. Starbucks has always been an international company, but we’re on the cusp of becoming truly global. There are now more than 20,000 Starbucks stores outside the U.S. and the company is deploying omni-channel strategies in the 86 markets where we operate. Through a five-year partnership with Nestlé, Starbucks is now the market share leader in U.S. at-home coffee and is growing significantly internationally. The global ready-to-drink business continues to rapidly innovate and accelerate alongside strong partners like PepsiCo, Dongsuh Foods, Suntory and Arla. And with the pandemic behind it, Starbucks China is poised for massive growth and on track to operate 9,000 stores in China by 2025. Since 2019, the store network there has expanded by 65 percent to more than 6,800 stores in 800 cities – offering a full spectrum of experiences that are unique to the market at a time when the specialty coffee industry is still in its initial stages.

What’s Next: Expanding store footprint to 55,000 by 2030, growing on average of eight stores per day. International will play a critical role, fueling nearly one-third of our earnings growth potential over the long term. Store growth will be bolstered by strong unit economic expansion, underpinned by the extension of our digital platforms to all our licensed partners globally. Emerging markets also present a significant opportunity – today we are only 19 percent penetrated in fast growing markets like India, Southeast Asia and Latin America with a 10,000-plus store opportunity remaining. Three out of every four new stores over the near term are expected to be opened outside of the U.S.

4. We are becoming more efficient. Over the past twelve months, our focus and discipline around our Reinvention has driven tangible financial results and unlocked capital for us to reinvest back into our business. Hourly turnover is now below pre-pandemic levels, creating a more consistent partner experience across the 9,600 company operated stores in the U.S.

What’s Next: Exciting new partner experience enhancements are coming, based on feedback from our partners. We will implement a $3 billion efficiency program, $2 billion outside the store in cost of goods sold, to both reinvest in the business and to deliver returns to shareholders through margin expansion and earnings growth.

5. Lastly, and perhaps most important to the foundation of the Starbucks brand, we will reinvigorate the partner culture at Starbucks. This starts with continuing the process of refounding the company with our partners, guided by our updated mission, promises and values. It's important to emphasize that we are not starting from the ground up. Rather, we are building on a long, rich heritage that has endured for more than 50 years. Throughout his global travels and during his unique immersion (which included many store visits and barista training), ceo Laxman Narasimhan came to see firsthand how art, architecture, beauty and design are central to the ethos of Starbucks. As a result, the company is announcing the establishment of many initiatives to uplift the culture via our 38,000 stores worldwide.

This beloved holiday coffee was introduced in 1984, back when Starbucks only sold whole bean coffee, tea and spices. The new coffee blend showcased Starbucks artistry in roasting and blending with an expert combination of lively Latin American beans and mellow Indonesian coffees. The finishing touch was the addition of rare, spicy Sumatra beans that were painstakingly aged for three to five years for a full-bodied, spicy and rich cup of coffee.

Customers quickly snapped up the hand-scooped bags of Christmas Blend, and the air in stores was soon filled with its roasty-sweet aroma. The roasting plant ramped up production to meet the growing demand and shipments arrived at stores each morning still warm from the fresh-roasted beans inside.&nbsp;

Ever since that very first holiday, Christmas Blend has become a cherished part of the season, whether it’s shared around a table or given as a perfectly wrapped gift. Its legacy continues with this year’s vintage, created by Starbucks team of expert coffee developers to honor its rich heritage while bringing in new coffees from Latin America, Africa and Indonesia and also considering brewing methods such as iced and cold brew.&nbsp;

The cup collection is clad in holiday red and Starbucks greens and a mood-boosting magenta, each one accented with sparkles for a bit of magic. “When we were looking at trends when designing this year’s holiday, we kept seeing bright, bold, uplifting colors,’” said Kristy Cameron, creative director at Starbucks. “We found that magenta alongside the holiday reds and greens lifts the traditional holiday colors and makes the red look even brighter.”&nbsp;

“This year’s holiday theme is ‘Share the Joy,’” said Cameron. “It’s our shared human experience and togetherness that makes the season special.”&nbsp;

“Starbucks red cups are like little wrapped gifts for our partners and customers,” Cameron said. “My hope is that they feel excitement and joy when they see the cups, and that they want to share them with family and friends.” Each cup features a gift tag to write notes or share a seasonal sentiment.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Unwrapping this year’s cup designs&nbsp;

Bridget Shilling, who designed the 2023 holiday cup collection, shares the story behind each one:&nbsp;&nbsp;

The idea for this design began with a warm woolen winter plaid. “I was thinking about a classic plaid scarf, but I wanted it to feel a bit more modern,” Shilling said. “So, I played with an unexpected palette and added geometric sensibility for elevated flair.”&nbsp;

The iconic Starbucks Peppermint Mocha was the inspiration for this design, with swirling waves of color that seem to move. “This illusory cup design is inspired by sensorial movement and evokes the familiarity of tissue paper and the swirling shapes of peppermint candies,” she said. “I wanted it to feel inviting for customers to pick it up, spin it around and watch the design come to life.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

This design features a cup wrapped with colorful ribbons. “I wanted it to feel joyful and a bit imperfect, similar to how you might store your ribbons for holiday wrapping,” she said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This cup is Shilling’s favorite, with festive ornament shapes to create a bold, mod print, wrapped around the cup at an angle as a play on gift wrap. “There’s a subtle tilt to the pattern that plays well with our tapered cup shape and brings to mind a uniquely wrapped gift,” she said.&nbsp;

This year’s holiday cold cup features playful baubles and sparkles in a snowy white, perfect for sipping an icy Cold Brew (above) or the new Iced Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai.

The flavors of gingerbread call to mind all the comforts of the season and the warm aroma of fresh-baked cookies and reconnecting with family and friends – is there anything more holiday? The new Iced Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai takes this festive flavor and gives it an icy new twist with the addition of creamy oatmilk and a cozy blend of chai spices.&nbsp;

“It’s a love letter to gingerbread and ginger,” said Matt Thornton, senior beverage developer at Starbucks. “The gingerbread flavor amplifies the spice of the chai.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

The beverage is made with a blend of oatmilk and black tea infused with cinnamon and warming spices and topped with a sprinkle of spice topping. It’s the newest tea beverage to the <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/press/2023/starbucks-holiday-drinks-food-and-red-cups-are-back-on-nov-2/">holiday beverage menu</a> in U.S. Starbucks stores starting Nov. 2, adding more variety and another iced favorite alongside <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/2123591/iced?parent=%2Fdrinks%2Fcold-coffees%2Ficed-lattes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Iced Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte</a>.

The original Starbucks Gingerbread Latte launched in 2000 and was part of the holiday menu in the United States for nearly two decades, and <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2022/a-little-taste-of-starbucks-holiday-drinks-around-the-world/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">is still a favorite</a> in markets in Europe and Asia.&nbsp;&nbsp;

And what about for those fans of Gingerbread Latte? You can get that too, along with the return of Gingerbread Loaf.&nbsp; “There’s something about gingerbread that just feels like the holidays,” Thornton said.&nbsp;

Oleato Gingerbread Oatmilk Latte&nbsp;

Starbucks stores in the United States that serve Starbucks Oleato™ beverages will also offer the new Oleato™ Gingerbread Oatmilk Latte, the first <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/starbucks-oleato-olive-oil-meets-coffee" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Starbucks Oleato</a> holiday beverage. (Starbucks Reserve and Roastery locations will have their own Starbucks Reserve® holiday lineup, including an Oleato™ Whiskey Barrel Aged Cold Brew.)&nbsp;

Billy Altieri, senior product developer for Starbucks, said the beverage is reminiscent of freshly baked gingerbread and olive oil cake. “The combination of the Starbucks Blonde Espresso with the steamed oatmilk infused with olive oil is nice and balanced with the gingerbread syrup uplifting all those spice notes. It's cozy and warming with an enjoyable dash of holiday flavors.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

The beverage is topped off with a ginger citrus sprinkle for a holiday cookie aroma, with notes of tangerine and gingersnap. “A lot of Italian desserts use citrus flavors during the holidays,” Altieri said. “It was an opportunity to blend the spices with the olive oil and the citrus was the ingredient that really brought these flavors together.”&nbsp;

Guided by this mantra, TMF programming focuses on investing in the mental health and well-being of Veterans and families of the fallen so they can move forward in developing character among youth and serving communities at large.
