Starbucks is Among the Most Popular Places for a First Date
Nearly every day David stopped at Starbucks for a tall latte. His afternoon routine was shaken up about a month ago.
“I swear people were moving in slow motion. I was sweating, I’m sure,” he recalled. “Even my regular barista thought I was acting strange and tried to calm me down. I didn’t order anything at first. I sat at a table by the window and waited for what seemed to be hours. It was probably closer to minutes.”
He was waiting for his date. A first date.
“Instinctively, I think I knew she was the one for me. That’s probably why I was so nervous. We’ve seen each other every day since that first meeting at our Starbucks,” he said with a smile.
David is among the one in three singles who say meeting for coffee is best for a first date (though still nerve-wracking in his case) according to Match.com, the online dating site. With more than 3 million Match members listing “coffee and conversation” as one of their interests, the online dating site recently added a “Meet at Starbucks” feature to make it easier for singles to get together for a coffee date.
That could be good timing, considering the World’s Largest Starbucks Date is one week from Friday.
On February 13, participating company-operated and select licensed locations in the U.S. and Canada will feature a special pairings menu. In the U.S., the menu will feature a selection of coffee and treat pairings available for $5 (US).
Starbucks US menu pairings include:
Caffé Verona® Coffee Press for Two and a Double Chocolate Chunk Brownie
Tall Flat White and Chocolate Croissant
Grande Raspberry Mocha or Grande White Chocolate Mocha and Heart Cookie
Available from 2pm to close, the special pairings menu will be complemented with in-store experiences designed to facilitate connection and celebrate love, including special in-store music playlists chosen by Starbucks partners (employees), and photo props to document and share your #StarbucksDate.
“We decided to have our first date and meet up at Starbucks,” said Anders. “I noticed immediately that she was absolutely gorgeous. The truth is that I thought she was way out of my league.”
Kristin, his date that day, and Anders have now been married for about a year and a half.
Michelle and Devin also had a first date at Starbucks that eventually led to marriage.
“It’s definitely a great place to break the ice,” said Devin. “You’re not stuck there for two or three hours if the date is not working out too well. Here’s hoping your date goes as well as ours.”
