Starbucks Welcomes Summer with the Arrival of Iced Coffee Beverages

SEATTLE, May 05, 2009 - With the heat of summer fast approaching, Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) welcomes the season with the arrival of its refreshing classic cold coffee beverages. Flavors come alive when freshly brewed Starbucks Terraza Blend is served over ice, lightly sweetened and customized with or without milk.

For a limited time, Iced Brewed Coffee will be featured at a promotional price of $1.95 for a Grande (16 fl oz), at all company-operated Starbucks locations across the U.S. through June 29, 2009. Depending on the market, customers will save anywhere from $0.25 to $0.45.

This summer, there are many ways to enjoy an iced beverage, whether it's a classic Iced Brewed Coffee with or without milk or your favorite espresso drink, such as Iced Caffè Mocha orCaramel Frappuccino® Blended Coffee. Whether you prefer to sip in store, take your beverage on the go or brew your own at home, Starbucks makes it easy to stay refreshed.

Brewing at Home

Wondering which coffees make the best iced coffee at home? Whether customers purchase whole bean coffee in a Starbucks store or in the coffee aisle at their favorite grocer, African coffees make a wonderful option for brewing iced coffee because hints of citrus and floral notes become more pronounced when iced. African Kitamu can be found where you buy groceries in the U.S. for a suggested retail price of $9.49 (per 12 oz) while Starbucks stores offer Kenya for a suggested retail price of $10.65 (per 16 oz) or Ethiopia Sidamo® for a suggested retail price of $10.45 (per 16 oz). Their rich flavors evolve as they cool, making it exhilarating served hot and delightfully refreshing over ice.

Iced Coffee on the Go

With Starbucks VIA™ Ready Brew, coffee lovers will never be without a great cup of iced coffee — all you need is cold water and ice. A perfected micro-grinding process preserves the naturally roasted flavors to produce the rich aroma and flavor of Starbucks® iced brewed coffee. Enjoy the smooth, rich flavors of Starbucks® Italian Roast or the nutty flavor of Starbucks® Colombia.

In the U.S. Starbucks VIA™ Ready Brew is available in Illinois and Seattle-area Starbucks stores and available for national distribution by ordering at (U.S. shipment only). It is also available at Costco and Target stores in Seattle and Illinois.

Iced Coffee from the Clover® brewing system

While supplies last, customers in Seattle, Boston and San Francisco can also visit a Starbucks store with a Clover® brewing system for a special iced coffee treat, Panama La Florentina. Sourced from the Volcan region in Chiriqui in western Panama, this coffee is a Starbucks exclusive. Iced Panama La Florentina is a medium-bodied coffee with crisp clean acidity combined with flavors of cola nut which highlight the coffee's full rich flavor and a lingering sweetness.
