Starbucks support for LGBTQIA2+ partners and communities

From offering inclusive health coverage, to partner-inspired community investments, to using our voice to advocate in support of civil rights and equality – Starbucks is proud to support and celebrate the LGBTQIA2+ community every day.

Key highlights and progress

Starbucks offers full health benefits to eligible full- and part-time employees, including coverage for same-sex domestic partnerships.

As one of the first employers to expand transgender health insurance options for full- and part-time partners, Starbucks added coverage of gender reassignment surgery.

Starbucks expanded its health coverage to include procedures previously considered cosmetic.

Starbucks begins offering expanded fertility benefits beyond adoption expenses.

Starbucks makes additional investments in family planning for all types of families by adding second parent adoption to the eligible reimbursement expenses and increasing the lifetime maximum with no per-attempt limitations.

Name and gender marker change support extended to partners, through the National Center for Transgender Equality, providing access to advisory services and reimbursement up to $500 for eligible costs associated with changes to state and U.S. federal identification.

Community partnerships & advocacy

Starbucks has long advocated for inclusion and equity for all, including supporting the Equality Act, the recent passage of the Respect for Marriage Act and opposing the patchwork of harmful policies and actions that have been proposed in several states around the U.S. We work with non-profit organizations around the country to provide resources to partners and support allyship.

Starbucks has been proud to partner with the Human Rights Campaign, including in joining their Count Us In Pledge to support visible allyship and commitment to LGBTQIA2+ equality. The Human Rights Campaign strives to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Starbucks partners with National Center for Transgender Equality, now Advocates for Trans Equality, to provide education, resources and support to partners related to LGBTQIA2+ civil rights, policy issues and experiences. NCTE champions legislative policies and provides resources that reduce barriers and advocates for the equality of transgender people.

Starbucks is proud to partner with Out & Equal to give partners access to additional learning opportunities to help advance workplace inclusion.

At Starbucks we care for our partners. We create experiences where everyone is welcome and respected. We are at our best when we create safe, inclusive environments for people to connect over coffee.
