Company to Assume Full Ownership of the Mainland China Market

Starbucks earlier today announced plans to consolidate its business operations across Mainland China by acquiring the 50% of Shanghai Starbucks Coffee Corporation that it didn’t already own from JV partners Uni-President Enterprises Corporation ("UPEC") and President Chain Store Corporation ("PCSC"). Customers in China have embraced the Starbucks brand and customer experience since the company opened its first store in the market 18 years ago. Starbucks stores in China are among the most innovative, coffee-forward Starbucks stores in the world, consistently generating strong revenue and same-store sales growth, record AUV’s and world-leading returns on investment. Mainland China is Starbucks largest and fastest growing international market with 2,800 stores in 130 cities, employing nearly 40,000 partners. Through this acquisition, the largest single acquisition in the company's history, Starbucks will assume 100% ownership of approximately 1,300 Starbucks stores in 25 cities in the Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces.

Also as announced earlier today, concurrently with the purchase of the East China JV, UPEC and PCSC will acquire Starbucks 50% interest in President Starbucks Coffee Taiwan Limited, and assume 100% ownership of Starbucks operations in Taiwan. Founded in 1997, the Taiwan JV currently operates approximately 410 Starbucks stores in Taiwan.

Company to Close all 379 Teavana Retail Stores

As reported on the Q2 call, many of the company’s principally mall-based Teavana retail stores have been persistently underperforming. Following a strategic review of the Teavana store business, the company concluded that despite efforts to reverse the trend through creative merchandising and new store designs, the underperformance was likely to continue. As a result, Starbucks will close all 379 Teavana stores over the coming year, with the majority closing by Spring 2018. The approximately 3,300 partners impacted by these closures will receive opportunities to apply for positions at Starbucks stores, as Starbucks remains on track to create 240,000 new jobs globally and 68,000 in the U.S. over the next five years.

Company Reaffirms Its Commitment to Operating 5,000 Stores in Mainland China by 2021

SEATTLE; July 27, 2017 – Starbucks Corporation (Nasdaq: SBUX) today announced entry into a definitive agreement to acquire the remaining 50% share of its East China (“East China JV”) business from long-term joint venture partners, Uni-President Enterprises Corporation (“UPEC”) and President Chain Store Corporation (“PCSC”) for approximately $1.3 billion in cash consideration in the largest single acquisition in the company’s history. Starbucks will assume 100% ownership of approximately 1,300 Starbucks stores in Shanghai and Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, building on the company’s ongoing investments in China, its fastest-growing market outside of the United States in terms of store count.

Concurrently, UPEC and PCSC will acquire Starbucks 50% interest in President Starbucks Coffee Taiwan Limited (“Taiwan JV”) and assume 100% ownership of Starbucks operations in Taiwan for approximately $175 million. Founded in 1997, the Taiwan JV currently operates approximately 410 Starbucks stores in Taiwan.

SEATTLE and MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (June 26, 2017) – Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) today announced a new licensing agreement with its long-time strategic partner Alsea, a leading restaurant operator in Latin America and Spain. The agreement grants Alsea the exclusive rights to develop and operate Starbucks® stores in Uruguay, with the first store set to open in early 2018 in Montevideo. Starbucks and Alsea have worked together since 2002, now serving millions of customers in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia in 841 Starbucks® stores and employing more than 10,500 Starbucks partners (employees). 700 On-the-Spot Jobs Are Offered at the Dallas Opportunity Fair on May 19, building on progress from similar efforts in Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Seattle

With more than 100,000 hires to date, the nation’s largest corporate coalition dedicated to hiring 16-24 year-olds facing barriers to employment will head to Washington, D.C. this fall

DALLAS and WASHINGTON, DC (May 24, 2017) – The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative™, the nation’s largest employer-led coalition committed to creating pathways to employment for young people, today announced that participating companies offered 700 jobs to Opportunity Youth – 16-24-year-olds who are not in school nor employed –in a single day at the Dallas Opportunity Fair on May 19. The event marked a key milestone in a national effort that first launched in 2015 and has since already connected more than 100,000 young people to jobs two years ahead of schedule. Since 2015, through partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders in Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle and most recently Dallas, the coalition has expanded its work, including a new goal to hire 1 million opportunity youth by 2020. Today, the 100,000 Opportunities Initiative also announced plans to expand to the nation’s capital with its next Opportunity Fair scheduled for this fall in Washington, D.C. Working with local community and civic leaders, the event is expected to connect thousands of DC-area youth to employment pathways with companies like Starbucks, FedEx, Five Guys, HMS Host, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Ulta Beauty, and more.

Bridging the Opportunity Divide in Dallas, and Beyond

In Dallas, an estimated 109,000 young people ages 16-24 are not in school or employed – making up roughly 13% of youth in the area. The Dallas Opportunity Fair, on May 19, brought together more than 600 hiring managers and volunteers from more than 30 companies. The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative™ members that participated in the event included Starbucks, FedEx, JCPenney, Macy’s, Pizza Hut, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, and more, as well as local companies. These companies connected with nearly 2,000 Opportunity Youth from the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area with the goal to connect them to jobs, apprenticeships, internships and educational opportunities. In the end, companies offered approximately 700 jobs, creating immediate impact for the young men and women in attendance. More than 60% of interviews, resulted in an offer on the spot.

The Opportunity Fairs are just one part of the overall approach. The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative is committed to creating lasting change in Dallas to make it easier for young adults to find and retain good jobs in which they can thrive. With funding from the Schultz Family Foundation and Starbucks, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas will be responsible for building on the Opportunity Fair’s success as it leads the ongoing work of 100,000 Opportunities Initiative™ in the Dallas region. Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas will help to ensure that young people are prepared to enter the workforce and that Dallas-area employers continue to strengthen their commitment to hiring Opportunity Youth; they will also host an ongoing series of smaller events to support thousands of young adults looking for work.

The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative™ is working with community-based organizations and civic leaders across America to ensure this initiative expands to other cities and continues to host on-going hiring fairs long after the initial event. Following the close of the Opportunity Fair in Dallas last week, the Coalition plans to expand its work to the Washington, D.C. metro area this fall.

In Washington, D.C., the coalition will work closely with the Office of Mayor Muriel Bowser and other civic leaders across the region as it begins identifying a network of community based organizations working to connect opportunity youth to jobs and pathways to success. In the D.C. area, where an estimated 70,000, 10 percent, youth are disconnected from work and school, the coalition will aim to apply best practices from its work in other cities where it has already hired more than 100,000 young people. The D.C. Metro area will focus on recruiting and hiring youth from the most underserved communities in the Metro area.

DALLAS, TX and TRENTON, NJ (May 23, 2017) – Starbucks today announced two new locations in Dallas, TX and Trenton, NJ in its national initiative to invest in at least 15 underserved communities across the U.S. by 2018. In Dallas, the company will join the ongoing redevelopment and revitalization of the iconic Red Bird shopping district in southern Dallas with a unique new store aimed at creating economic opportunities by hiring locally, providing in-store training opportunities for youth, and working with local minority owned businesses. The store in Trenton, NJ, located downtown on South Warren Street, will have a similar mission in the community when it opens in late 2017. Six such Starbucks® stores have already opened in Ferguson, MO, central Phoenix, the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, NY, Englewood in Chicago’s Southside, East Baltimore, and Long Beach, CA, demonstrating that long-term investment in underserved communities can help drive opportunities for Starbucks business and the community.

Creating Economic Opportunities in Southern Dallas

Starbucks plans to work with local women- and minority owned contractors for the construction of its upcoming Red Bird store, and is evaluating minority owned suppliers in southern Dallas for a locally sourced product to feature in the café. Set to open in Spring 2018, the company hopes the new store will help spotlight local businesses, support their growth, and invest in the community. The Red Bird Starbucks will also be the first in the Dallas metropolitan area to have a unique in-store training space. Working with a local nonprofit organization, Starbucks will provide southern Dallas youth the opportunity to take part in a free multi-week job skills training program – based on Starbucks own renowned customer service curriculum. When trainings are not in session, the room will be available for local groups to use for meetings and dialog – serving as a vital hub for members of the community.

“While parts of southern Dallas continue to lack economic opportunity, there is a robust potential customer base, and a strong business and community led movement underway to revitalize those parts of the area that need it most,” said Traci York, regional vice president for South Central Operations for Starbucks. “We want to be a part of this effort, and show that with meaningful investment and a creative business model that reflects the needs of the community, we can create the kinds of economic opportunities that have the potential to generate long-term impact. An estimated 13% of youth in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area are unemployed, a challenge that is compounded in southern Dallas where 25% of youth are not in school or employed[1]. First Starbucks in Trenton, NJ Part of National Initiative to Support Economic Revitalization

Starbucks is proud to also announce its first store in Trenton, NJ. Located on South Warren Street in downtown Trenton, the store, like the location planned in southern Dallas, is part of the company’s latest initiative to deepen investment in underserved neighborhoods in at least 15 communities by 2018. The goal is to contribute to ongoing economic development and revitalization in low to medium-income communities and create job opportunities for local youth. Starbucks is currently evaluating local minority owned vendors in the community to supply product for the store, and nonprofit organizations in the community to support its in-store job training program for opportunity youth. The store is expected to open in late 2017.

“We considered the impact Starbucks could have in this part of Trenton, and whether it would be a viable site in terms of driving our business and being profitable, while also serving the needs of the community with new jobs and economic investment,” said Camille Hymes, regional vice president for Mid-Atlantic Operations for Starbucks. “Both of those considerations – community impact and impact on business –led to this site being right for us. Starbucks has granted Caribbean Coffee Traders Limited the exclusive rights to develop and operate stores in Jamaica

SEATTLE and KINGSTON, Jamaica (May 4, 2017) – Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) today announced it has entered a geographic licensing agreement with Caribbean Coffee Traders Limited, a consortium led by Margaritaville Caribbean Group, a leading restaurant management and franchise operator in the Caribbean. The agreement grants Caribbean Coffee Traders the exclusive rights to own and operate Starbucks® stores in the country. Jamaica will be Starbucks 17th market in the Latin America and Caribbean region, with the first store slated to open in Montego Bay.

SEATTLE, April 26, 2017 –&nbsp;Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) today announced it will open a Starbucks Reserve® Roastery in Chicago in 2019. Located on North Michigan Avenue and Erie Street on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, the Chicago Reserve® Roastery represents the company’s third Roastery location in the U.S. following Seattle, which opened in December 2014, and New York City, which is on track to open in 2018.&nbsp; The company also plans to offer customers multiple international Roastery experiences, including Shanghai, opening late 2017, alongside Milan and Tokyo, slated to open in 2018.

Tailored to the Chicago customer, the interactive four-story, 43,000-square-foot space will also be designed to bring coffee craft to life by offering multiple brewing methods, specialty Reserve beverages and mixology. &nbsp;

DALLAS, April 18, 2017 – With an estimated 109,000 young men and women not in school or the workforce – nearly 13 percent of youth – the Dallas metro area has one of the highest rates of youth disengagement in the nation[1]. In response, a national coalition of more than 50 leading U.S. companies known as the 100,000 Opportunities Initiative™ will come together on Friday, May 19, from 9 am to 4 pm at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to host the Dallas Opportunity Fair – an unprecedented, day-long hiring event aimed at Opportunity Youth – 16- to 24-year-olds who are not in school or working. The event will feature recruiters and resources from top U.S. companies including Starbucks, FedEx, JCPenney, Pizza Hut, Chipotle, Delaware North, Republic Services, Dominos, Sprinkles, Five Guys, Target, Hilton Worldwide, Teavana, HMSHost, T-Mobile, Ulta Beauty, Macy’s, Villa, Papa John’s, Walgreens and Walmart.

Together, they are offering more than 1,700 guaranteed job interviews throughout the day for local positions, as well as the opportunity to connect with more than 30 job-readiness and social services, including resume writing, interview skills and college and financial aid applications – making this the largest and most comprehensive opportunity youth hiring fair ever hosted in Texas. Based on past events in Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Seattle, the coalition expects to extend hundreds of immediate, on-the-spot job offers at the May 19 event. It will also look to sustain investment in Dallas over the next few years, partnering with local organizations to create ongoing impact.

SEATTLE, April 17, 2017 – Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) announced that it will make sure 100 million healthy coffee trees get into the hands of coffee farmers that need them by, 2025. This effort is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive support to farmers around the world which includes open-source agronomy research, farmer financing and access to information.

This expanded commitment builds on Starbucks One Tree for Every Bag initiative which launched in September 2015, ensuring that a coffee tree is planted for every bag of coffee purchased in a participating U.S. stores. The seedlings will&nbsp;replace trees that are declining in productivity due to age and disease, such as coffee leaf rust which is perpetuated because of a warmer climate. More than 25 million trees have been donated thus far with the initial distribution of 10 Million having started in the summer of 2016.

Having already built a successful tree distribution network and as one of the largest purchasers of arabica coffee, Starbucks can now integrate the purchase of healthy, rust-resistant coffee trees into its green coffee buying program. By working with long-term suppliers, the company will seamlessly ensure that a total of 10 Million coffee tree seedlings per year are available to farmers in need.&nbsp;
