Walk like an Egyptian and head down to the largest archaeological museum in the world – the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). This month, the GEM officially opens a Starbucks store, located outside of Cairo on the Giza Plateau and next to the famous ancient pyramids – making Starbucks the only international coffee chain within the museum.

In alignment with the Pyramids' location and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the GEM demonstrates 7,000 years of ancient Egyptian history through an array of artefacts.

The store draws inspiration from local heritage architecture with textures and patterns that are exceptional – engraved panels, colours, and materials are all inspired by ancient Egypt.

The shapes of the bars and the geometric patterns on the walls are reminiscent of the GEM's exterior and its setting in the exhibition of ancient Egyptian artifacts. The design is also inspired by the development of what is currently Egypt's largest museum while creating an innovative Starbucks Experience.

As part of Starbucks mission to inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, one cup, and one neighbourhood at a time, last weekend, Starbucks UK offered customers the chance to get their hands on a limited-edition illustrated reusable cup, decorated in-store by three local artists.

Building on momentum from previous Valentine’s Days, where during the pandemic customers could gift their loved ones a coffee with a bespoke message written especially for them on the cup, ordering via Starbucks delivers. This year, the celebratory messages have been amped up even further allowing customers to get their hands on special cups with the same celebratory messages but designed by talented local artists.

In London, Manchester, and Edinburgh, on Saturday 11 February, customers were invited to visit three stores across the UK to get their hands on the coveted cups.

The three artists Starbucks worked with to create the designs for customers were: Bee Illustrates (London), Pypah Santos (Manchester), and Katie Smith (Edinburgh).

Starbucks UK partners with local artists to give customers customised reusables this Valentine’s Day

On Wednesday 7 December, Starbucks will be offering free Tall beverages to all NHS staff in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, to say an early festive thank you for the third consecutive year.

NHS staff can order any handcrafted Tall beverage of their choice from Starbucks stores across the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) when they show their work identity care in store. This one-day offer is part of an ongoing partnership between Starbucks UK and NHS Charities Together, which sees each Starbucks store across Great Britain paired with one of over 230 local NHS charities, to help support staff, patients and communities across the UK.

Alex Rayner, General Manager at Starbucks UK, said, “We hope this small gesture gives all NHS workers the opportunity to take a moment to enjoy this festive period and demonstrates our huge appreciation of the NHS for all that they do, all year round. There is more to come from our partnership with NHS Charities Together to help us give back to the local communities we serve, including NHS staff, with exciting new projects coming soon that we are incredibly proud of.”

This holiday season, Starbucks introduced its largest range of <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/emea/stories/2022/create-your-own-magical-moments-with-starbucks-emea-holiday-merchandise/">reusable merchandise collection</a>, giving customers more options for receiving their drinks in reusable cups and offering a 25p discount the next time they bring their cup into the store. NHS staff are also encouraged to make the switch by using a reusable cup to drink their free Tall beverage.

“For Holiday 2022, we are going full glitz and sparkle – glossy, metallic, and glittery finishes combine with bright tonal colours. Textural gold foil is splashed across rich red tumblers for a modern look, while glitter filled tumblers bring a touch of fun into the range along with the bear mug and the coordinating ornament. Striped tumblers are reminiscent of festive holiday wrapping paper,” said Suzy Payne from Starbucks EMEA marketing and product team. “The reusable Red Cup has become a tradition for customers each holiday season and is a step towards reducing single-use cup waste as we work towards our planet-positive goals.”

Starbucks® Christmas Blend and Christmas Blonde Roast

Looking for the perfect brew for the holiday season? Starbucks® Christmas Blend is back again, and this year features a dark roast blend of Aged Sumatra, Guatemala, Colombia, and Papua New Guinea with notes of baking spices and chocolate finish.

Also available this season is Starbucks® Christmas Blonde Roast – lightly roasted beans from West Java, Papua New Guinea with washed and sun-dried coffees from East Africa. This combination creates the perfect blend of festivity with bright notes of spiced orange and fig.
