Talent search begins for Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan
Around 150 roles offered - from master baristas to mixology experts on new careers site
Over 300 total new jobs to be created in Milan, including future Starbucks stores with Percassi in 2018
Milan, ITALY; February 2, 2018– The recruitment for the first European Starbucks Reserve Roastery and the first Starbucks location in Italy, has begun today, as Starbucks launches a new careers website: https://starbucksreservecareers.it. The new Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Piazza Cordusio in Milan, opening in autumn 2018, will hire around 150 Starbucks partners (employees).
It was during a visit to Milan in 1983 when Starbucks executive chairman, Howard Schultz experienced the magic and theatre of Milanese coffeehouses, which inspired the third place Starbucks experience now present in 76 countries around the world. 35 years on, the journey to open the first Starbucks retail presence in Italy has begun, by hiring its passionate team of partners.
The majority of the 150 roles at Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan will be full-time, permanent contracts, with special benefits including ‘bean stock’ – restricted stock units (RSUs), for employees to share in the success of the company. Starbucks has a long-standing tradition of investing in people - from structured training and development, to providing lasting career opportunities, as well as rewards and benefits that complement great personality, knowledge and attitude. The recruitment website has launched for all prospective candidates to learn more about roles and how to apply.
Giampaolo Grossi, General Manager for Starbucks Reserve Roastery – Milan said: “Starbucks brings a culture of warmth and belonging, and we are excited to invite candidates to apply and join us to open the Roastery. This team is going to be part of something very special for the company. We recognise how much coffee passion and talented baristas there are in Italy, and now we can share more about the career opportunities we are creating.”
“We are pleased to welcome Starbucks to the city and support the over 300 jobs being created at the Reserve Roastery and Starbucks stores in Milan. Starbucks is an internationally recognised coffee brand, and we are delighted to see the career opportunities created for its first location in Italy”, commented Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala.
Since the first Starbucks Reserve Roastery opened in 2014 in Starbucks hometown of Seattle, most recently Starbucks brought the same coffee and retail innovation to China, the company’s fastest growing market. The Shanghai Roastery opened in December 2017 and is a 30,000 square feet retail space of coffee roasting and brewing, Italian baking, and exquisite local craftsmanship. The new Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan will serve rare and unique coffees in an immersive environment, designed specifically for the Milanese customer, and will offer freshly baked food on site from Italian artisan baker Rocco Princi - the exclusive food partner for all new global Roastery locations.
Following the Roastery opening, Italian licensee and business partner Percassi will begin to open a small number of Starbucks stores in Milan in 2018. Recruitment will soon commence to build fantastic barista teams for these Starbucks stores, alongside the world-class culinary skills of Princi bakers, who will operate within the Roastery. By the end of 2018, over 300 new job opportunities will have been created in Milan.
Matteo Percassi, CEO Percassi Food and Beverage added: “This is an exciting time as we start to build the passionate teams for our stores, which will be carefully designed and curated to respect the local Milan community. We already employ more than 600 Milanese through our retail brands and we are looking forward to developing more talent for our Starbucks stores.”
