Charities Cheer for Good thanks to community funding

More than 200 local charities around Britain are celebrating funding donations thanks to the support of Starbucks customers getting involved in Cheer for Good. The Christmas campaign helped to raise awareness and funds for local causes that sit at the heart of the communities that are most important to Starbucks customers and its store teams.

Cheer for Good was the fourth annual Christmas charity initiative by Starbucks, working in partnership with As part of its ongoing commitment to championing some of the country’s smallest charities, Starbucks will continue this partnership with Neighbourly to support and raise the profile of the vital work that these charities do in their local communities all year round.

Throughout 2017 Starbucks partners (employees) offered support for local community projects from their time to volunteer, offering skills training as well as food and drink donations. The year was rounded off with Starbucks UK donating £150,000 to the 210 charities that took part in Cheer For Good. Each charity was nominated by Starbucks partners (employees) and customers, and the top 30 charities, whose supporters ‘cheered the loudest’ on Twitter, were awarded a grant of £2,000 each, with everyone receiving £500.

Sarah Wolf, Senior Technician, Wiltshire Search and Rescue Service, explained that the £2,000 is being used to fund brand new digital radios to help their team of volunteers communicate with their central base. She added: “Campaigns like Cheer For Good are so important to charities like us, we are all volunteers and we don’t have any paid staff. It’s all about word of mouth so being able to have a brand behind us to give us the support has been absolutely priceless for us.”

More than 15,000 people across the UK supported Cheer for Good online and hundreds of Starbucks stores across the UK also helped spread the cheer by hosting fundraising events in stores.
