Apprenticeship Programme named as one of UK’s best

Starbucks recognised as a Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer

Since launching its national apprenticeship programme in 2012, Starbucks has created more than 1,300 apprenticeships for its partners (employees) and established an industry-leading programme in the UK. The expansion of the programme to now include qualifications up to Level 6 has seen Starbucks recognised in the prestigious Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship employer list. The accolade coincides with Starbucks recently being named Best Apprentice Employer for London. The list is compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service and was announced on 18 January 2018 to recognise excellence in businesses that employ apprentices.

Recognised for Success

Speaking about Starbucks being named a Top 100 Apprenticeship employer, Sue Husband, Director of the National Apprenticeship Service, commented, “The Top 100 Apprenticeship employer list 2017 demonstrates clearly the impact apprentices can have on an organisation”, Sue said. “Apprentice employers are creating opportunities for individuals to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, up to degree level. These Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers are making a difference to the lives of their apprentices by investing in their future.”

The apprenticeship programme creates opportunities for partners to grow their skills and careers as Starbucks recruits, trains and retains talent for the business. In the UK, apprentices can earn qualifications from Level 2 up to Level 6, equivalent of a university degree, across a wide range of disciplines and subjects, such as hospitality, digital IT and the nation’s first in food technology.

The programme is led by Russell Butcher, senior manager, education, skills and qualifications, Starbucks EMEA, who commented, “There are a number of great apprenticeship programmes across the UK and to be named as one of the best is a great accomplishment and testament to all of the apprentices and partners involved in developing the success of our programme. The benefits of apprenticeships both to our people and to our business have been tangible and we look forward to continuing to innovate and develop our programme further.”

Starbucks committed in 2015 to creating another 1,000 apprenticeship qualifications across the business by 2020.
