On April 20, Starbucks Taiwan opened the new 90 Dongqiao 8—Tainan store, located at Par K* Avenue, Yongkang District, Tainan. Inspired by the mythical Starbucks Siren, the store's design creates a unique space that serves as both a home for Starbucks partners (employees) and an oasis for customers, providing the perfect environment to nurture the limitless possibilities of human connection.

The store showcases a one-of-a-kind design concept. Drawing inspiration from nature, it features beautifully layered arches that extend from the columns, creating an uplifting atmosphere. As you explore further, the spacious curved ceiling houses a warm and welcoming bar counter complemented by a textured wall that evokes the serene beauty of a forest, accompanying you on a delightful coffee journey.

The mural artwork behind the comfortable sofa seats is a beautiful creation by local artist LEHO. It portrays the Starbucks Siren encircled by coffee branches and leaves, the sea, and Tainan city’s iconic bird, the pheasant-tailed jacana. Paying homage to Tainan, the beautiful artwork adds an extra touch of charm to the experience at the store.

In celebration of the 90 Dongqiao 8—Tainan store opening, Passion Fruit with Mango Jelly Cold Brew, a new beverage exclusive to the store was introduced. Featuring local Tainan mangoes, this unique non-alcoholic cocktail is crafted using tea and coffee, along with mangoes in a base of green tea and fruit juice, releasing a sweet aroma with both refreshing and rich fruit notes.&nbsp; Lastly, the cold brew and tangerine aftertaste make for an ideal finish, thick and rich, taking the palate on an adventure while immersing in the atmosphere of the 90 Dongqiao 8—Tainan store.

An exclusive “Starbucks Glittering Assorted Cookie Gift Box” was created especially for the 90 Dongqiao 8—Tainan store. It features a green gradient design and metal lines that accentuate the store’s distinctive architecture. 

The 90 Dongqiao 8—Tainan store also introduced exclusive merchandise. The design of 12-ounce mug depicts an elegant urban oasis, combining three-dimensional artistic lines of ocean waves with alluring natural colors. The mug is finished with a hand-painted gold handle in lake green with a hint of gold. The texture on the 24-ounce cold cup is paired with a three-dimensional green gradient design, creating a sophisticated style and intricate texture. With the design of its three-dimensional lines representing ocean waves, and its elegant grindstone pattern fusing artistic style with quiet texture, the 16-ounce tumbler sets the tone for creating a delightful coffee experience at Starbucks.

The Shalu Beishih Store opening commemorates Starbucks 25th anniversary in the market

On November 28th, Starbucks Taiwan announced the opening of its first certified Greener Store, The Shalu Beishih Store, commemorating its 25th anniversary in the market. This drive-thru store is part of the company’s <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/press/2023/starbucks-verifies-3500-greener-stores-globally/">global expansion</a> of its open-source Greener Store Framework intended to reduce global carbon emissions, water usage and waste sent to landfills by 50% by 2030.

The Shalu Beishih Store meets performance-based standards of the <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2021/starbucks-greener-stores-accelerate-global-movement-towards-a-more-sustainable-future/">Greener Stores Framework</a> across environmental impact areas such as energy efficiency, water stewardship, and waste diversion, designed to accelerate the transformation towards lower-impact stores. The Shalu Beishih Store is the first store in the market with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and offers digital signage to reduce paper usage, water recycling for irrigation, energy-efficient appliances, and certified low-emitting materials for interior design finishes.

The Shalu Beishih Store features an arched roof that draws inspiration from ocean waves and mountains that surround the store. The building symbolizes the progression of waves along the coastline and the cascade of nearby mountains. The store features exclusive merchandise and a specially designed Starbucks Card that reflects the architecture and surroundings of the store.

A new beverage, Brown Sugar Kuzuko Jelly Iced Shaken Black Tea Latte, which takes its flavor cues from the local environment was also introduced. It combines brown sugar Kuzuko, reminiscent of the fall season, with a matcha milk foam visually resembling the nearby mountains.

New Hualien Heping store, dedicated to uplifting Taiwan’s Indigenous Community, joins hundreds of Starbucks® Community Stores operating globally

Today, Starbucks Taiwan celebrated the grand opening of its first Community Store located in Xiulin Township, Hualien County, reaffirming the brand’s global commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity. Around the world, Starbucks recognizes a responsibility to strengthen the communities it serves and has opened more than 150 Community Stores in service of this aspiration. In partnership with Uni-Wonder Corporation, Starbucks licensed business operator in the market, the new store provides more career opportunities for green apron partners (employees) from Taiwan’s indigenous communities and a dedicated space to celebrate indigenous culture.

Community Stores around the world are inclusive of several store models, from serving under-resourced communities, to empowering farmers, youth and women, and creating impact in partnership with local nonprofit organizations.

The Starbucks® Hualien Heping Community Store has been designed as a community-based third place that strengthens ties between residents in the neighborhood, while fostering pride in the region's diverse indigenous culture. A portion of profits from this store will be donated to Hualien County Private Heping Sustainable Charity Foundation, an organization with deep roots in the area and community, to support a local emergency relief fund.

The store design draws on the rich indigenous culture in Hualian, including featured artworks created by indigenous artists Miru Hayung and Eleng Luluan. Miru Hayung, an artist from the Atayal Zihing community, used vibrant images to illustrate how coffee connects people and the environment. Eleng Luluan, a teacher from Drekay Kucapungane community, used local textiles and embroidery cloth to create an artistic landscape of plants and coffee trees.

The celebration of indigenous culture extends beyond store design. A one-of-a-kind totem embellishment, created by Truku traditional weaving master, Shi Ma Hsiu-Hua in collaboration with tribal women, is woven into the iconic green apron partners wear at the Community Store. Representing the pride of the Truku people, the design pays tribute to the enthusiasm and connection Starbucks partners proudly bring to customers.

Growing up in Xiulin Township, Hualien County as part of the Truku tribe, store manager Allen is proud to support his community through the Community Store. “It has been ten years since I joined Starbucks, and I am now a store manager who leads and trains partners,” says Allen. " Starbucks corporate mission has a great impact on me when I first joined Starbucks after graduating from university. I have found a sense of accomplishment and a sense of belonging in the store, and I hope to recruit more locals to become partners through this store.”

Since 1998, Starbucks Taiwan has opened more than 540 stores, with more than 5,600 partners now proudly wearing the green apron in the market. Committed to creating positive impact in the communities it serves, Starbucks Taiwan supported the educational development of indigenous children through its "Indigenous Hope" project since 1999. The project has provided nearly 46,000 indigenous children with scholarships, supported the establishment of seven recreational classrooms, one stadium, and two student centers, helping many tribal children to attend school and have an opportunity to develop their talents and dreams. Reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, all Starbucks Taiwan stores will offer reusable cup options to customers by 2023

Starbucks today announced the launch of its Borrow A Cup program across sixty stores in Taiwan, after successfully implementing its first Borrow A Cup pilot at two stores in Houshanpi and Taoyuan in late July 2022.

The program targets to encourage customers to shift away from single-use cups as part of Starbucks global goal to reduce waste sent to landfill by 50% by 2030.

In addition to the sixty stores offering reusable cup options to customers, the Borrow A Cup program will further expand to other stores in 2023, targeting to extend coverage to all stores nationwide in Taiwan by the end of 2023.

To borrow a reusable cup from a Starbucks® store participating in the Borrow A Cup program, customers should sign in to the Starbucks® app, place an order for a freshly brewed beverage and pay a $50 refundable deposit per cup. The Borrow A Cup program allows customers to return reusable cups in two ways: either by returning the reusable cup to the cashier at one of the 60 Starbucks® stores where the program has been implemented within seven days of the cup being borrowed, or by opening the Starbucks app in a KIOSK cup return machine in the store and scanning the “return a cup” QR code before depositing the lid and cup into designated delivery ports. Used cups are collected, washed and sterilized that meet or exceed public guidelines.

Adhering to the principles of a sustainable recycling and reuse cycle, in Taiwan, Starbucks has implemented multiple sustainability initiatives in addition to the Borrow A Cup program. Cup bags and cup holders made from recycled materials alongside reusable stainless stirring rods and trays made from coffee grounds have been introduced at all Starbucks® stores in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Starbucks continues to offer plant-based milk options such as oat milk, almond milk and soy milk to its list of customizable beverage options, and annually introduces new vegan meal options.

Starting July 1st, 2023, the Starbucks Borrow A Cup program in Taiwan has now expanded to over 500 stores, with the exception of specific locations such as hospitals, airports and some business parks, half a year after its first launch.
