Starbucks Foundation Donates $350,000 to Relief and Rebuilding Efforts in the Philippines

We want to express our heartfelt concern for the thousands of people who have been impacted by the devastating, Super Typhoon Haiyan, in the Philippines. All of us at Starbucks are grateful to the many first responders who courageously, and selflessly are responding to this disaster and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community that has been affected by this storm.

As part of our commitment to help this community, the Starbucks Foundation will be contributing $350,000 to support the relief and rebuilding efforts in the region.  Of this, we are dedicating $200,000 to the American Red Cross Typhoon Appeal, and $150,000 to Mercy Corps to support long-term rebuilding efforts.  Both organizations have already initiated the complex work of recovery.

In addition, Starbucks business partner Rustan Coffee has made a donation of $12,000 to the Volunteer Services Organization and our stores in the Philippines – which have reopened and all partners (employees) are safe and have been accounted for – will help raise funds over the holidays.  This will come from the sale of limited-edition holiday planners, and we expect this to result in at least $50,000 that will also be directed to these efforts.

If you would like to help, partners and customers can text TYPHOON to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross*, or find opportunities with Mercy Corps via http://www.mercycorps.org/
