From the aroma of freshly ground beans to the artistry of a perfect pour, Starbucks partners (employees) across Asia Pacific are elevating coffee craft to new heights. This year, partners from India to New Zealand have stepped onto competitive stages, showcasing their skills, passion, and dedication to the craft of coffee. Their journeys are not just about winning titles—they’re about inspiring others and deepening the connection between coffee and community.

Starbucks Hong Kong: Tasting Triumph

In Hong Kong, partner Cola achieved a proud milestone—placing fourth in the Hong Kong Cup Tasters Championship finals. Her success reflects the dedication, discipline, and deep coffee expertise that Starbucks partners bring to every cup.

Cola’s Starbucks journey began over a decade ago as a part-time barista. Her commitment and growth led her to become a store manager, and later, a Learning & Development Specialist at the Starbucks Hong Kong Support Center. As a certified Coffee Master and active member of the Starbucks Coffee Leadership Team, Cola is passionate about both coffee excellence and partner development.

“Coffee is about connection, craftsmanship, and continuous learning,” Cola shares. “I started with no knowledge, but over time, I’ve come to appreciate the depth and stories behind every cup. What keeps me here is the opportunity to inspire and grow others. Watching partners develop is the most rewarding part of my journey.”

Reflecting on her competition experience, Cola describes it as a dynamic learning process: “The Cup Tasters Championship turns sensory training into a real-time adventure. Every sniff, slurp, and decision is a micro learning loop. It’s not just about identifying the odd cup—it’s about sharpening your senses and building self-awareness.”

She adds, “Growth doesn’t come from always getting it right—it comes from being open to feel, reflect, and adapt. Competing has helped me evolve not just as a taster, but as a partner and lifelong learner.”

Starbucks India: Brewing Excellence and Communication

India’s coffee scene is thriving, and Starbucks partners are proud to be part of it. At the Women’s Coffee Alliance India (WCAI) Championship, four partners placed, with Sneha winning Best Communication in the Women’s Brewers Cup. She also placed in the Top 5 in the Women Brewers Skill category at the National Barista Championship.

Sneha joined Starbucks India in 2019 as a Store Management Trainee, with a passion for people and a curiosity about coffee. “I had no idea how deep and complex coffee could be,” she says. “Becoming a Coffee Master was a dream come true, and competing in the National Barista Championship opened up a whole new world of learning and growth.”

For Sneha, coffee championships are more than just competitions—they’re opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. “Everyone brings something unique to the table. Each experience helps me sharpen my skills and deepen my love for coffee and people.”

At the Bengaluru Regional round of the Indian AeroPress Championship 2025, Madhav earned third place. He will now advance to the national-level competition, where he will compete for the championship title—a title he last claimed in 2023.

Madhav began his journey with Starbucks India as a Store Management Trainee, with no prior coffee experience. Over time, he developed a deep passion for coffee and connection, becoming a competitor, coach, and mentor in coffee championships. Now a District Manager, Madhav continues to inspire partners, believing that every conversation—whether in competition or in-store—is a chance to learn, grow, and create meaningful moments.

“Coffee competitions are a great way to learn — not just about coffee, but about teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving under pressure,” said Madhav. “For me, the real win is the relationships built and the collective pride in representing Starbucks on a bigger stage,” he added.

Select partners from Starbucks India shared their experiences about competing:

  • Sanskrita

Second runner up in the Women Brewers Skill category at WCAI Championship

“Coffee competitions are where passion meets courage. They challenge me to push my limits, think creatively, and embrace the artistry that makes coffee so special.”

  • Pranav

Second runner up at the Indian AeroPress Championship – Hyderabad Regionals

“Every time I brew a cup of coffee, it surprises me. I love how such a small cup can hold such a big story.”

  • Ritika

Sixth runner up in the Women Brewers Skill category at WCAI Championship

“Competing in coffee championships pushes me to refine my skills and step outside my comfort zone.”

Starbucks New Zealand: Championing Craft in Auckland

In Auckland, Nelson was crowned champion at the Auckland Regional Barista Champs 2025, showcasing his precision, creativity, and passion for coffee. His win reflects the vibrant coffee culture in New Zealand and the dedication of Starbucks partners who continually strive for excellence.

Nelson’s Starbucks journey began at 220 Queen Street—the busiest store in New Zealand. With no prior café experience, he stepped into the role of barista, eager to learn. That first job sparked a curiosity that quickly grew into a deep passion for coffee.

“I knew I wanted to be a barista,” Nelson shares. “Starbucks was where I learned the basics, and as I progressed, I realized there was so much more to discover. I kept asking questions, kept learning, and eventually joined the Starbucks Coffee Academy. Becoming a Coffee Master was a turning point—it accelerated my growth and helped me see coffee as a true career path.”

Today, Nelson is the Coffee Education Lead at Starbucks New Zealand. He’s responsible for developing internal training materials and helping partners build their technical coffee skills. But for Nelson, it’s more than just education—it’s about inspiration.

“My goal is to help partners start their own coffee journeys,” he says. “I love sharing knowledge and seeing others grow.”

Nelson’s passion for coffee goes beyond the cup. “Coffee is like art—there are so many philosophies, approaches, and interpretations. I love how different perspectives can coexist. After coffee, the world feels a little less lonely.”

He’s also a strong advocate for coffee competitions, having seen firsthand how transformative they can be. “Competitions are an incredible way to grow—not just in coffee knowledge, but in self-awareness. You learn to stay calm under pressure, manage logistics, and make sure your coffee and signature beverages shine. It’s a powerful experience.”

Starbucks Singapore: A Hub of Talent and Taste

This year, Yi Xin, a five-year partner and store manager, proudly represented Singapore at the World Cup Tasters Championship in Geneva, placing 29th worldwide—a remarkable achievement for the region. Back home, she also clinched the title of Singapore Cup Tasters Champion in both 2024 and 2025, showcasing her consistency and mastery in the craft.

Yi Xin’s passion for coffee stems from its power to connect. “Coffee is a universal language that helps me spark meaningful conversations, one cup at a time,” she shares. “I love how simple it is to make someone’s day with a good-tasting cup.”

For Yi Xin, competitions are more than just a challenge—they’re a catalyst for growth. “They allow us to showcase our craft in new environments, pushing us to adapt, refine our skills, and grow,” she explains. “Each competition nurtures different aspects of my journey. The Starbucks Barista Championship focuses on brewing, latte art, mixology, and storytelling—testing creativity and presentation. In contrast, Cup Tasters sharpens sensory awareness and palate precision.”

Now, Yi Xin is preparing to represent Singapore once again at the 2026 World Cup Tasters Championship in Bangkok. “I’m honored to stand on the world stage for Singapore and Starbucks. Each experience leaves me more energized and inspired for what’s next.”

Singapore partners continue to shine on the competition stage. In the Singapore National Latte Art Championship, partners Pink, Rabia, Sahira, and Qi Wei showcased their flair, with Rabia placing fifth.

In the Singapore Cup Tasters Championship, partner Jason stood out, securing sixth place, reflecting he depth of talent within the Singapore team.

Celebrating Every Cup

These partners are more than competitors—they are storytellers, artists, and innovators. Their achievements remind us that behind every handcrafted beverage is a partner with a deep love for coffee and a commitment to excellence.

As Starbucks continues to nurture coffee passion across Asia, these stories serve as a beacon for aspiring partners and coffee lovers alike.
